RM of Miry Creek’s story
The first homestead in what became the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek No. 229 was settled in 1907. Six years later, on January 1, 1913, the area incorporated as a rural municipality.
That same year, 1913, the Canadian Pacific Railway extended westward into the RM from Cabri, bringing the rail line to the district.
Today the RM surrounds the villages of Abbey and Lancer, and includes the special service area of Shackleton along with localities such as Abbey Colony, Waldensian Valley and Wheatland Colony. Agriculture and natural gas are its major industries, and the RM office is in Abbey.
